Natal Chart and Your Personalized Horoscope by Jarvis Thompson

Horoscopes are commonly associated with your zodiac sign, which then corresponds to a specific range of dates. If you are looking for a reading that is more is customized to you, one way is to get your natal chart. This is an astrological mapping based on the exact time of a person’s birth at a particular place on Earth.

For a more accurate horoscope, birth time may also be included in the calculation. This helps the reader plot more precise primary chart angles. If the time of birth is not readily available, a solar chart may be used instead. For this type of horoscope generation, the position of the sun at midnight or at noon can be sued as the time of birth.

A natal chart is unique to you. It is extremely rare for two people to have the same birth charts †even twins are have different ones due to one child being born before the other.

Actually constructing the natal chart requires a lot of work. First, the astrologer must convert the local time of birth to the Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time) and then to the sidereal time. It also involves consulting an ephemeris which lists the location of the sun, the moon and the planets for particular times and dates. The chart is then divided into 12 houses †there are several ways to do this as well. Mathematical calculations are derived for points and angles such as the vertex and the equatorial ascendant. The aspects between pairs of planets are then considered (may include conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile, semi-square, sesquisquare and quincunx.

Only after this step is done, can the interpretation begin. This includes chart weighing †which notes the distribution of the zodiac signs to the houses. Signs are also assessed by element and quality. Chart shaping can also be done. Here, the placement of the planets and the pattern between the planetary aspect and positions in the chart is interpreted.
This concept is often used in astrology as it accounts for differences between traditions. Even horoscopes based on sidereal and tropical astrology result in different start and end dates for each sign.
The discovery of the procession of the equinoxes is credited to Hipprachus. He is said to have discovered the astronomical phenomenon in 130 BC. It is attributed to him by Ptolemy. At that time of discovery, they noted that the sun was in a slightly different position at the time of Spring Equinox each year, as measured against fixed stars. This observed behavior is called a progression.
